About Us

Artisanian is a project that promotes the traditional north Indian handicraft art of hand block printing using the Internet and e-commerce.

Artisanian was legally constituted in the United Kingdom as a non-profit distributing company. It is now based in Rajasthan, India. It has two primary objectives:

• To sell traditional hand block printed fabrics by harnessing the power of the Internet & enhancing the benefits which traditional producers derive from those sales as a result.
• To explore new ways in which grassroots level producers can be integrated into decision making processes as their products are delivered to consumers around the world. Artisanian should be recognised as an Alternative Trading Organisation, an authentic Fair Trade organisation.

Artisanian is supported by three organisations. Financial support comes from the Artisan Trust who have enabled acquisition of this domain, purchase of e-commerce software and will, in due course, support the promotion of this website. Technical, management and commercial support comes from WONDERWORLD, an experienced UK handicraft wholesaler and La Argent International in Jaipur, India, an experienced well knowned manufacturer and exporter of Rajasthani handicrafts.

This is an ambitious project. It will develop dynamically toward the comprehensive goals set out above as we establish organisational infrastructure and learn ways of integrating our producer partners into all aspects of the project. However the starting point for Artisanian is clearly articulated by our producer partners - generate sales & generate work for traditional hand block printers!
